Welcome

Hi! I'm Sylvie,
an international table tennis player from Ghistel West-Flanders, Belgium.
I currently play for Table Tennis Club Ghent.
Since 1997 I've been playing table tennis, and since 2006 I've also joined the league for disabled people, in which I play about six to eight tournaments per year, all over the world.
At this moment my world ranking is 3th in my category
-which is updated every 3 months- and I'm also a member of the Belgian national team.
For more information about my record of achievements, have a look here.
For the most recent ranking, have a look over here.
I have a top sport status A, which means that the BOIC/ BPC, pays three of my tournaments every year; all the other tournaments I have to pay for myself.
This website is mainly about myself, the things that motivate me and keep me going, small facts and details, etc.
The people around me are helping me to reach the major tournaments,
such as the European Championships, the World Championships,
and the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.

About myself

“At birth I was struck by a cerebral paresis/haemorrhage;
as a result of this I have a functional limitation across the entire left side of my body.
This does not stop me from practising sports, however.
For several years in a row I have been provincial champion in various age classes in the regular competition, and to this day I am the ruling Belgian champion with the disabled.
For me, playing table tennis is a real challenge. The competition is huge, because only the best ones are qualified for the major championships.
Apart from these, I also play in the interclub championships every week, and I take part in national tournaments, guided trainings, and so on. ”
